This post might be quite long so stick with me.
I’m a video producer from London, UK. At first I went along with the lockdown back in March and agreed with it. As it dragged on though I started to question of it was the right thing to do. I’m now very much against a second lockdown and think that the negative impacts are being wholly underestimated and a dangerous precedent is being set for our futures.
I’m not sure if this is happening elsewhere but the other day I was served an advert made by the government saying how dangerous the virus is to young people (targeted at me as I’m 28) They were using ‘real’ cases to bring emotion to the video and trying to make people feel guilty for wanting to be out and about. It’s hard to explain why but it angered me, especially when I have seen the statistics that show how non-threatening covid is to younger people under 40.
It did however give me an idea. We have a great community here of people who challenge lockdown for the right reasons, with facts to back it up as well. I think that there are plenty of stories that need to be told of how lockdown has negatively impacted people. I want to hear those stories and edit them together in a video. I don’t want to make a video of why people disagree with lockdown, I simply want to show people what this is doing to millions of people.
If the government can lean on the emotion of the negative impacts of covid, I feel we should lean on the emotions of the negative impacts of lockdown. It won’t be easy and it might be polarising but the goal with it would be to show those who feel the same as us that it is ok to disagree with lockdown.
Initially I would just want to speak to people in the UK (via zoom) as we’re about to go into a second nationwide lockdown. So whether you’ve lost your job, struggled with mental health, been furloughed, can’t see loved ones etc. Then please feel free to reach out to me.
I’m not sure if this is a great idea and if anyone has reasons as to why they don’t think I should attempt this please let me know.
